VCA chairman urges fast-tracking of the Innovation Fund

The government must fast-track the €500 million Innovation Fund announced last month to stimulate start-up activity, according to Joe Concannon, chairman of the Irish Venture Capital Association (IVCA).

‘‘The question is the timeframe,” he said. ‘‘If five new funds got going in six months, with €500million capital available, and they had mandates where they were focused on early-stage investment in Ireland, it would be a very material and positive development.” .....> read more

Cellar Master raises €525,000 in fresh funding

Cellar Master, a new Dublin-based wine firm, has raised €525,000 in a seed capital funding round organised by equity investment consultancy WHO42 and financed by private investors.

Cellar Master is using the funding to finance its entry into the Irish market, and will open an outlet in Stillorgan, Dublin next week. It is attempting to introduce a new retail format, by opening a warehouse outlet that sells a wide range of wines in large volumes > read more

Technology start-ups face funding shortfall

ON THE face of it, Ireland has a vibrant technology industry. Speaking at a recent event in London, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan said that software now accounts for almost €12 billion in Irish exports which are generated by 800 Irish and international firms.
